Feeling Elaborate

Sweater: Ever New // Skirt: gifted // Shirt: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Material Girl // Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target // Ring & Tights: Forever 21 // Necklace: Aldo

The weekends tend to pass in a heartbeat and leave us all facing yet another week full of work and cares. However, this particular week shouldn't be as bad as usual since it's New Year's Eve on Tuesday night! How will you be celebrating the arrival of the New Year?

For today's outfit, I wore this midi skirt that was given to me for Christmas, as well as this sweater from Ever New that I procured at half price. Thanks to their sales of late, I've been walking into their store with the intention of casually browsing their selection and, more often than not, have walked out with a new purchase (we won't discuss whether I actually needed any of the things I bought). I think it's gotten to the point that the staff recognize me; especially since I'm often wearing at least one item from their store. Anywho, I've been wanting an embellished sweater like this for quite a while; however, the unnecessarily hefty price tag for these beaded sweaters often deterred me in the past from making the buy. Thank goodness for Boxing Week sales!

What are your favourite buys from this past week of shopping madness?

Christmas Lace with a Black Gold Twist

Jacket: Tobias via Plum // Top & Skirt: Forever 21 // Tights: H&M // Corset Tank: Wilfred // Shoes: Material Girl // Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target // Necklace: Aldo

As you all know, Christmas has just blown by in a red-green blur of fun-filled festivities (and too many treats). Now we are looking forward to the NYE in great anticipation and, as always, the year seems to have passed much too quickly. However, before we get all sentimental and teary-eyed over the demise of 2013, let's try to focus on the happier aspects such as NYE parties and getting the opportunity to spend time with good friends and family. After much debate, the boyfriend and I decided to forgo the downtown booze-filled NYE parties at either a club or hotel in favour of a more relaxing and gentle-on-the-body NYE party at home with our closest and dearest friends. How will you be welcoming in the New Year?

Yesterday, I didn't dare to venture into the malls during Boxing Day as I have had enough of malls to last me for quite a while. Nevertheless, I did go out to watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with a longtime girlfriend. I highly recommend the film as it inspires you to dream big, to travel off the beaten path, and to never give up on yourself. In other words, it was quite the "feel-good" movie! Plus, Ben Stiller is super cute. 'Nuff said.

In terms of this particular outfit, I wore this ensemble to attend a Christmas dinner at my boyfriend's parents on Christmas Day. For some unknown reason, I've been steadily swerving towards darker combinations this year; on the contrary, last year I was wearing blindingly bright colours on a daily basis without the slightest bit of hesitation. Perhaps a happy medium would be a good goal for me?

Merry Christmas in Camo & Gold

Jacket: Forever 21 via Keeping Up With Jasmeen // Sweater: Old Navy // Hat: Ever New // Pants: Forever 21 // Shirt: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Material Girl // Necklace: Aldo

Merry Christmas everyone!
I've just finished exchanging gifts with my immediate family and it was so much fun to see the happy expressions on their faces when their opened their presents. My dad especially loved his gift, which was a limited edition Hobbit-themed Moleskin notebook; I just hope that he actually ends up using it because I know he won't want to ruin it. We are both Tolkien-obsessed so I knew the moment that I spotted the notebook that it would be an amazing choice for him. Although I managed to exchange gifts with a couple of friends before today, there are quite a few friends with whom I need to meet up before I can open the last of my Christmas goodies!

How is your day going so far? I wish you a very blessed Christmas and hope that you enjoy this time with your loved ones in peace and with much joy!

Put A Ribbon On It: Fabulous Holiday Gifts Under $50

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!
How has your day gone so far? I hope that it has been restful and full of relaxation like mine was today; I spent the morning with some good friends prepping the decorations for her birthday party on Friday while watching Elf, sipping on London Fogs, and listening to Christmas tunes on Songza. After we finally made some good progress (it turns out that taping paper snowflake balls and other paper decorations to the ceiling isn't a great idea), I was able to make my way over the boyfriend's place to hang out and even get in a workout session. Getting some exercise over the last few days has been hard since I'd been working long and hard at work; however, I refuse to let all of those Christmas treats get the best of me!

In other news, I'm happy to announce that I've started to write for the Toronto-based blog Urbanebloc, which focuses on topics such as fashion, lifestyle, travel, and food. Since these subjects are all right up my alley, I hope to give the blog's readers a West Coast slant on things. Check out my first post on last-minute but fabulous Holiday Gift ideas here.

Lastly, the Hayvenn Scarf Giveaway is now over and I have chosen my two lucky winners:
1) Jodie W.
2) Anna K.
Both of these wonderful readers will be contacted shortly.

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!

Burgundy & Lace

Jacket & Tights: Forever 21 // Skirt: Topshop // Shoes: Material Girl // Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs // Scarf: vintage

Greetings everyone,
I bring you glad tidings! Or at least they're glad for me: I'm finished my brutal four day work week during these last few days of the hectic Christmas countdown. I do have to work one more day before Christmas Eve on Monday but I won't think about that right now. I'm just so happy that today wasn't that crazy at the mall and that I feel ready to relax now with a long movie and comfort food. As well, maybe I can enjoy a bit of that snow tomorrow during my off day!

How are all of you dealing with the Christmas countdown?

P.S. I took these pictures about a month ago but for some reason never got around to posting them until tonight. I love this Topshop skirt for its unique details and versatility; I use it in equal amounts for fancier events such as Christmas parties and for walking around town if I wanted to feel dressed up. What are some of your favourite pieces these season?

Back to Black & White

Jacket & Pants: H&M // Faux Leather Crop Top: Urban Outfitters // Shirt via work // Necklace: The Hudson Bay Company // Shoes: Zara // Sunglasses: Aldo

At this time of the year, I'm sure that many of you have personally experienced just how awful the malls can be in terms of the immense crowds and cranky customers. As someone who works in Guest Services, we are often on the front lines of this hectic atmosphere; as a result, I often feel completely exhausted after finishing a seven or eight hour shift. Tonight, however, I felt lucky enough to finish work at 6 pm and to be able to go home at decent hour to enjoy dinner and some time with the bf. On the bright side, I've finished my Christmas shopping and decorating at home-- I'm ready to relax during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and beyond! How are the rest of you dealing with the craziness of Christmas shopping?

In terms of today's outfit post, the lovely Luvania from Fashion To The Nine (who presently is on vacation in Hawaii and needs to come back already) took these pictures for me after we enjoyed a much-needed coffee date about a week ago. I've been gravitating towards black and white outfit combinations lately and have realized just how addictive this colour palette can be! However, I really want to get back to wearing more colour so let's hope I'm successful in future posts.

Win Some Winter Warmth: Hayvenn Infinity Scarf Giveaway

Scarf c/o Hayvenn Clothing // Hat: Ever New // Sleeveless Jacket & Necklace: Forever 21 // Pants: J. Brand // Shoes: Zara // Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target // Bracelets: Ily Couture, Ardene

With the soft flurries of snow that visited our fair city last week, it cannot be denied even the inhabitants of mild-weather Vancouver need some winter accessories to keep our precious extremities warm and cozy. If you're anything like me, you have been searching high and low for pieces that will keep you rosy-cheeked, comfortable, and stylish. When Hayvenn Clothing approached me to review its chunky-knit circle scarves, I was ecstatic over the opportunity to both promote a local business and get my hands on some high-quality merchandise. Although infinity scarves can be bought just about anywhere in this day and age, I've found it to be strangely difficult to find scarves that are both affordable and provide an abundance of snuggly comfort. After wearing my taupe-coloured scarf (featured above) non-stop for the past week and hearing many of my friends comment on its extreme softness, I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed with this product! As well, I enjoy how these particular scarves possess enough material to be wrapped several times around my neck in order to achieve a luxuriously bundled look. On the contrary, many of my previous infinity scarf acquisitions were an unimpressive combination of scratchy and smallness. Be sure to check out the many colours available from the online Hayvenn Clothing boutique here.

Now let's move onto the exciting part! Hayvenn Clothing was kind enough to give me not one but three scarves so that I would be able to create a giveaway just for my wonderful Vancouver readers (I promise to have some wonderful freebies for my international readers in the near future!). As a result, two lucky readers will have the chance to win either a mint or black scarf.

In order to enter this giveaway, please:
1) State which colour you would prefer.
2) Tell me one thing that you love about the wintertime.

Entries will be accepted either as comments on this blog post or as emails to fortunadebbie112@gmail.com.

Winners will be chosen and contacted by Christmas Eve. :)

Looking forward to hearing from you guys!

Travel Diaries: Rodeo Drive & Galore

Hello everyone,
Happy Saturday! Today marks the last day of my work week and I am extremely excited to be having a short breather from the hectic December pace at the mall. I feel fortunate that I was able to enjoy my vacation before this month started as mall employees usually are restricted by a blackout period in which they can't take leave during the Christmas shopping season. However, so many of my friends are on vacation now in either Hawaii or LA that I can't help but feel a tad envious! Oh well, at least I can reminisce about my trip with these pictures! These were taken on our first and second days-- enjoy!
Walking around Rodeo Drive and taking touristy pictures with no shame.
Christmas time in LA: sunshine and barely any cold weather.
What would Rodeo Drive be without its big brands?

The Snowy Blues in Yaletown

Pants: Current/Elliot via Nordstrom Rack (Beverly Hills) // Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell // Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target // Hat: Topshop // Sweater: Nordstrom Rack // Blazer & Necklace: H&M

A delicious olive and mushroom pizza lunch at Sciu√© Italian Bakery Caff√© in Yaletown (as beautifully displayed by the well-manicured hand of Luvania of Fashion To The Nine).

Hello everyone,
How have you been enjoying your winter so far? Vancouver just was showered with a fine sprinkling of the white stuff yesterday and many of our fair city's denizens have been either ranting about or enjoying their snowy experiences. For myself, I was less than happy about having to trek all the way downtown in the cold weather; however, the trip was more than worthwhile as I got the opportunity to meet up with Luv before she leaves for her vacation (today!) and I got to meet up with an acquaintance about blog-related matters. To meet individuals who both inspire and encourage you to follow your passions and dreams is a rare opportunity that should never be wasted; I often feel blessed that I am surrounded by so many amazing people who reach for their dreams and aren't afraid to stand out from the crowd. I truly enjoyed the chance to chat about blogging, my aspirations, and the changing publishing industry with this particular mutual acquaintance (in Vancouver, everyone knows everyone). As a happy result of that meeting, I was also given to the opportunity to review a wonderful product and create a giveaway that my lovely readers in Vancouver will be able to enjoy. Stay tuned!

I hope that you all have been having a wonderful week and are getting that Christmas shopping done. I have finished about 1/3 of my shopping list but I feel that I have made great progress so far. Also, don't let those humongous mall crowds crush your Christmas spirit!
